Last Day of NaYoPracMo!

January 31, 2007

It’s Day 31!  I have a post brewing about the experience of this month, what it all means, what I’ve learned about yoga practice, etc. but I’m saving that for tomorrow!

I would love to hear everyone’s final statistics and thoughts:  how many days you practiced, how many you missed (if any), what you learned (if anything).  Drop me a note in the comments or via email yogagumbo (atsign) gmail (dot) com.

If you managed all 31 days, you’re in the running for a prize!  If we have more prizes than people who practiced every day, then I’ll draw from everyone who participated.  Again, if you’re in the running for a prize, leave a comment or email me!

I’m so, so grateful for all of you and your enthusiasm and support.  Thanks to all of you for helping keep me on the path!

  1. Haven’t done all 31 yet. I seem to be practicing mostly in the afternoons (weekends excepted.) I’ll report tomorrow. Don’t wanna jinx myself.

  2. Yogamum! I DID IT!! I’m so excited and thankful to you for putting this together!

Here’s how it broke down for me: 6 classes at the studio, 4 classes from Yoga Today, 2 practices from books I own, 11 practices from DVD’s, and 8 practices just on my own (these were mainly off days when I was sick or traveling, but they were at least 10 minutes).

I’m going to keep going. The level of peace, fitness and happiness I feel about making myself this kind of priority cannot be replaced by anything. I’m sure there will come a day when I’ll miss a practice, but I’m planning to make it as regular as brushing my teeth.

Thanks for the opportunity to truly experience daily practice. I probably would have never done it without this challenge.

    Lisa…

  3. I did 30 out of 31 days, and I am very happy with that. Like Lisa, I plan on keeping up with it. I am finding my practice to be a treat for myself. I’ve fallen into a routine of sorts and look forward to my nightly practice.

All my practices were done with me following a DVD or Yoga Today. I think I did maybe 5 nights of Yoga Today, and the rest DVD. I did three nights of Kundalini each week and the rest was pretty random. Mostly Hatha, with Shiva Rea.

I’ve learned that I am very good at twists, and awful at balance poses. I struggle with my breath, and when I have to breathe fast {in Kundalini} I find that it’s easy for me to get confused. Meaning, I pull my belly in with the inhale, etc…BUT I am working very hard on this.

I could write a novel here, so I’ll stop now! LOL Thank you so much for doing this!! :)

  4. I managed some time on the mat every day in January! And for the most part, I was able to complete close to my full practice. This was an absolutely wonderful experience.

Visit my blog for a more detailed synopsis of lessons learned etc.

  5. Woohoo! I did it. I ‘ve got to admit something about having the goal to do this made it harder for me. In previous months I have done an everyday yoga practice, but without the intention to do it. Once the intention was set the ego set in full force to derail me, but the Will perservered! I’m happy to say I was able to work through both a knee tweak/injury and a shoulder tweak/injury during th month and come through healed and stronger. Thanks for organizing this!

  6. i did 29 out of the 31 days of yoga. but this has definatly jumped started doing yoga every day for me. i don’t want to stop!

  7. I did ashtanga on 20 of the 31 days (a monthly record for me), a mini-restorative practice on five other days, 108 sun salutations on the first, I just forgot one day, and then my trip last week got in the way of the remaining four days.

Thanks for your energy for pulling this together!

  8. It was a wonderful experience that I am not going to stop now:-)
I’ve learnt a lot about myself and my practice.
I practised everyday, did some Ashtanga, some Iyengar, some classical Hatha. I’ve found my yoga.
    Thank you so much Yogamum!

  9. I failed to practice everyday. But I did succeed in learning that daily practice is not only possible but very useful.

I plan to make a space for daily practice in my life.

  10. My last practice in January actually began at 12:05 AM on 2/1. Lasted 40 minutes. Does this count, because, I mean, really, I stayed up to practice, right? So I did practice within the functional day of January 31st – at least that’s how I see it.

More on the effects and stuff later. Work is insane.

  11. Yeah, I think it counts, Andi! Congrats!

And congratulations to everyone, and my deepest gratitude!

  12. Hi Yogamum! I also did my 31 days of yoga. Everything from Mysore-classes to short 10 minutes practices at home.

It has been a real challenge but it has done me so much good and I will keep on practice though I have given myself 3 days off. New beginning tomorrow.

I would never, ever have been practing so regular without NaYoPracMo since I tend to have a mind that do everything not to practice but with this challenge I could easily ignore my mind’s talking! ;)

Now I have come into a routine which I hope I can continue the rest of they year!

    Thank you!
    Namaste!
    Anna
